Exhaust

By Frank Colgoni

Naturally, like most things hot rod combined with Volvo and a 60 degree V6 thrown in, an almost complete custom exhaust solution was called for.

It would have been complete had we not found a set of headers from Classic Conversions. These were initially developed to simplify the installation of 2.8 L 60 deg. V6s (or their variants) in MGBs. As it turned out, they were perfect for our application of the 3.4L variant.

Below: Classic Conversion headers. They will be coated prior to installation.

Below: The beginning of our system. You can see that the collector ends nicely just below the starter. From there, Schwartz Inc. fabricated a 2" dual exhaust system from stainless steel.

Below: 2" in/out Flowmaster Hushpower mufflers. Red arrows point to hangers. They serve both pipes at once.

Below: Pipes continue up and over rear end.

Below: Exiting to rear of car. Note the additional hangers which will fasten just above on a body crossmember.

Below: Tail pipes will be trimmed back to edge of pan. Yet to be added are two final hangers.
