Late Fabrication - Part 1

Marc McCrae of Lowdown Hot Rods at work on our project car frame. You can see that the centre-section will be very stout and will provide a very solid platform for our ride. The centre-section is being designed to allow the exhaust to run through rather than under.

From above, you can get a better look at the centre-section. In this photo, the tranny "loop" is not installed. Don't forget this detail!

Marc shows us where the mounting plate for the master cylinder and booster will go. This is not the actual plate (see last two photos on this page). Final welding still needs to be done on the tube connections. The fit is nice and tight.

Our rearend housing has been narrowed to our specification to position the wheels correctly and the Horton Street Rod Products' four-link brackets have been tacked into position. A Horton panhard rod kit has also been installed to control lateral movement of the rearend. Notice that the rear crossmember, rather than going straight across between the rails, has been raised by 2". This will get the car sitting lower. Needless to say, you'll need to c-notch the frame rail to allow for rearend travel and the trunk floor will need to be modifed to accomodate the crossmember - we had Ramrod build this in while building our body..

A close up of the rear crossmember and the four link bracket which has been modified with stand-offs to allow for proper clearance of the wider Air Ride Shockwave bodies.

You can get a good look at the entire centre section of the frame in this shot. It won't be long before it's out of the fixture.

From the rear, you can see the tranny loop and mounting plate for the master cylinder/booster. It won't take much to make this frame a "roller".
