1961 PV544 Project - Update 5

Like the passenger compartment, the trunk looked pretty good at first glance and even better after a good vacuuming. All the seams were sealed and, while dusty, it had been painted at some point. However...

I decided to probe a few areas and, after my experience with the interior floors/rear seat area, decided to do a complete strip including all surfaces, seams, etc. And, like the interior, I'm glad I did as there were all kinds of surprises underneath including buried surface rust.

Like the interior, I had to dig through layers of paint, undercoating, the same rubber-like "goo", and body filler. Did I say that this is very time consuming work?

After the initial cleanup.
Not sure what the non-stock holes were from/used for.
As noted in the intro, it looks decent in its "before" state.
After stripping away asphalt sound deadening and seam sealer. Some hidden rust starting to show up.
Bottom of spare tire well. Note all the scraped-away rubber goo at the bottom right and a hole that was being covered up with body filler.
Messy but nothing too dramatic showing up.
Once again, nothing too serious here. Once everything had been completely scraped off, evidence of a repair to the rear pan showed up though..
Removal of rear suspension.
