On Saturday, September 2, 2006, the weather in southern
Ontario pretty much sucked. OK, it totally sucked. HOWEVER,
the atmosphere at the Roadmates 50th. Anniversary Picnic
made up for the inclement weather.
The
Roadmates started the celebration last winter at Speedorama
and capped it off (at least for us non-Roadmates) at
this 50th. edition picnic complete with the requisite
corn roast. It rained on and off during the day then
it just simply rained as the remnants of hurricane Ernesto
rolled in. Spirits
weren't dampened in the least.
Once again, our congratulations go out co-founders Duke
and Tony Brown and the entire Roadmates club. As the afternoon
portion of the event wore down, a number of tributes were
made. Duke and Tony accepted on behalf of the Club and
paid tribute to each other and the current and former members.
Here are some highlights of the ceremonies followed by
a LARGE slideshow. Enjoy. (by the way, if you make it to
the end of the slideshow, the last pic is yours truly followed
by Moe Loveless, Jim Pearsall and John Edwards - I never
get in any pictures so call it Editor's privledge) |
