Performance World
2006 – From Another Perspective
In the last five years we’ve covered the Performance
World Custom Car & Truck Show four times. The only reason
we didn’t cover it in 2000, is that Canadian Rodder
was established after the show.
In years one through three, we attended as media. In year
four we attended as media and with a car. This year, our
perspective was little different as Canadian Rodder participated
as an exhibitor promoting both our 1932 Ford Roadster 75th.
Anniversary car as well as our 2007 Canadian Hot Rod Tour
under the “2007: A Deuce Odyssey” banner.
That being said, we had a fab weekend as usual. The organization
of the show was top notch, interest was high for both our
project car as well as the Tour and it’s a great opportunity
to interact with members of our hobby.
When you participate as an exhibitor (versus a spectator),
and if you’re fortunate enough to have the opportunity
to talk to as many people as we did, you would be surprised
by the distance people travel to attend. Amazing really.
As mentioned earlier, it was a good weekend overall –
didn’t get to spend as much time trolling cars as
usual but I took advantage of the quiet before the storm
on Sunday morning and traveled the halls with camera and
tripod and captured a nice overview of Performance World
2006. There was definitely a nice cross section of vehicles
in all halls and some tasty feature stuff like Posies Aeroliner
(I’ve got the build book on this car. Simply looking
at the car in its finished state doesn’t do justice
to what lies beneath and the efforts at achieving the finished
product – regardless of what you think of the car).
One of the other highlights of the weekend was the special
breakfast to honour Performance Worlds’ outgoing Larry
King. There were some fine, deserving, tributes. The show
manager torch passes to Brenda Brough. Good luck Brenda.
You’re already doing an amazing job.
Oh yeah, biggie next year in celebration of the ’32.
We’ll be there. See the “Deuces Wild”
link on the main page. Until then…
