Introduction

The Plan
In our sneak preview of the '34 coupe project, we titled it "The Journey Begins". Despite the fact that the owner/builder had just acquired the body, the journey had actually begun long before and rightly so. Bob's been tossing this one around in his head and on paper for some time now.

Before undertaking a project of this magnitude - that is, a ground-up build of a rod, careful planning and strategizing is required if costly mistakes are to be avoided. Sure, there's going to be hiccups along the way, changes of heart, trial and error and so on, however, play it safe and put a plan together that recognizes, at least, the major elements.

In this case, Bob Klowak, our owner/builder, thought it through and even laid down a colour rendering as a target. We've seen it but you will have to wait. We don't want to "give away the farm" just yet. Bob knew that he wanted a '34 and it had to have fenders. Bob told us that he loves hiboys but practicality won out. Hey, a full-fendered '34? What's not to like (love).

While he was working on his plans, Bob got his order in for a Ramrod body. Certainly a great start and good strategic move. Nothing like having the body when you start to hand-fab a frame. You know, something like having a custom suit made for you rather than off the rack. This will likely pay dividends later.

A Bit About Bob
Bob, and his wife Sue, live northwest of the greater Toronto area in Loretto. Where's Loretto. Check out the accompanying map and note the red maple leaf. Bob must have been thinking this project when he built his very nice, roomy, well lit (etc.) garage. I'm so envious. He did a super job on the garage. I have a feeling the same will be said about the '34.

Bob and Sue have his and her 'Vettes and a 1969 Olds 442 W30 (in pieces) with a healthy 425 h.p. motor (that would make a interesting powerplant for the coupe). Bob tells us his first car was a '55 Ford (Moe, eat your heart out).

So, stay tuned for more about "Klowak's Koupe". For now, imagine where's he's going to take it. Anyone want to guess what colour he's picturing at this point
