You know it's going to be wild day when you see chopped and channeled Model A
hanging from a crane with a "For Sale" sign!

Once a year, at the end of April, the sleepy little village of Half Moon Bay, California comes alive with over 2000 "Big People's Toys" at the Dream Machines Show.

Everything you can imagine: steam powered tractors, antique engines, restored war birds, home-built aircraft, custom cars, motorcycles, street rods, sports cars and classics. All this, to benefit the Coastside Adult Day Health Center - a local, private, non-profit organization that has been in existence for the past 18 years.

There is something for everyone including airplane rides in WWII aircraft, tractor pull, country and western music, food booths and many wonderful mechanical wonders to capture the imagination as well as view the imagination of others!

What a wonderful day - the sun was shining, somewhat rare for early mornings near the Pacific Ocean. This small community is supported by an active fishing fleet with fishermen selling their catch of crab, salmon and tuna from the back of the boat. Pumpkins attract the kids in the fall, green houses full of flowers to be sent east and into Canada during the winter, farms growing artichokes and brussel sprouts, stables that rent horses for rides on the beach and of course the collection of bed and breakfast cottages and restaurants. This delightful place is about 20 miles south of San Francisco on the coast side of the San Francisco Peninsula and prides itself on a slow-growth political base.

Of course there is no way to show all the wonderful machines there were there that day, but here is a sample of the diversity of "toys" that made their way to the airport this day. Some of you may remember that Half Moon Bay was the home of a famous drag strip in the 60's, but that is another story.

What a way to put good used slicks back on the road!

Gary Hubbach of Los Altos owns this truly classic early 30's vintage roadster. Not only is the look correct, but each of the components, including the 1932 Ford V8 engine are correct for the period.

Every great roadster lover has an understanding of these Lotus 7 kit cars. Check out the background, camping trailer, Mustang and Studebaker pick up street rod.

Art Perry of Foster City remembers his wonderful old Hudson with the"Step Down" design

It was a great day for the bikers too. This is only a small line up of all the riders there that day.

Even this classic Rolls Royce drew a lot of admiring eyes from the passing crowd

This aircraft tug is fast enough to get almost any plane up to airspeed!

The steamer boys were out in force, they had a big wood pile out in the back to keep the whistle blowing and the flywheel turning all day long

Jacking up a low rider can be a work of art. The Carnival Parade will be held in San Francisco on the last weekend in May. Maybe this owner can make this car dance
for the crowd there too!

Art Perry, a WWII Coast Guard pilot , spent many hours in one of these Grumman Albatross N44RD flying boats. This one, owned by Ried Dennis was flown around the world between March 17 and May 29, 1997. Now that is a real rod run!

In 1942, Northrup Aviation built this one-third scale of the XB-35 long-range bomber. The full scale model was able to carry a 52,000 lb. load of bombs with a range of 7500 miles. This aircraft delighted the crowd all day long both on the ground and in the air.

Dan Alioto in his 1933 Chevrolet "Mercury Series" coupe, joined Elin Lupo and her red Victoria as well as Charlie Caldwell with his "Almond Nostalgia"1932 five window coupe,
for a full day of walking and looking.
