World - More is Better

Performances
World Toronto is held at a time of year when you're REALLY sick
of winter and, this year around Southern Ontario, we were REALLY
sick of winter. Unfortunately, Toronto had another good dumping
of snow that same weekend - brutal. However, once inside, everyone
seemed in great spirits
Despite
the fact that the cars aren't in motion and you can't take in
the full sensory experience with sound (and smell), it's still
a blast to check out some cool cars, bump into other car freaks
who have come out of hibernation and shoot the proverbial.
I
liked this year's show. Perhaps it wasn't the best PWorld I've
been to but the organizers still did an excellent job of assembling
a nice mix of stuff. And, there was enough there in every genre
to please everyone.
We
shouldn't underestimate the headaches involved in pulling something
like this off. You've got this big space to fill, you beat the
bushes, get all the entry forms out, you beat the bushes....
After all that however, you have to contend with people pulling
out, projects not finished (that never happens right?), etc.
Not a lot of fun but they persevere.
In
the front room, we ran right into Fran Speer's '33, a Ridler
contender (maybe should have won at Cobo??), Jeff Norwell had
a sweet hemi powered Model A looking just right in black suede
and red and Bob Hilton's "Xtreme" which is based upon
a S10 (loosely). While not a hot rod per se, this truck is awesome.
We saw this truck under construction at Lowdown Hot Rods and
know what went into this piece.
In
the second room, there was some interesting racing stuff. As
well, we met some nice people representing The Right Coast Association,
the folks who put on the Syracuse Nats among other events. They
offer CDN$ at par. Nice touch.
In
the third room, there were some nice club displays and as well
as a good cross section of local machinery. We also ventured
into the audio and sport compact sections. There were some impressive
audio installations but we felt totally ancient in the sport
compact room.
All
in all another good show. Congrats to Pro Show Inc. and to all
the car owners. Until next year...
